What the Commons is for

A public shelf for the things we make, map and learn — and a first note on how it will grow.

Collab OS is where our work happens. The Commons is where we put the parts of it worth sharing — for the people we work with, the people we learn from, and anyone trying to make sense of the same terrain.

We call it a commons rather than a blog because a post here is rarely a block of text with a picture on top. Sometimes an article is the right shape. More often a piece is something you operate: a map you can stand inside, a library you can browse, a study you can run. The first two pieces are exactly that — Lines of Thought, a map of where public figures stand on AI, and the Motion Library, eleven studies of motion on the web reduced to the primitives they run on.

What we will put here

Things about Collab OS itself, as it grows. Things about design, and about AI, and about the craft of collaborating and facilitating — the work underneath the work. Case studies of collaborations, told from the inside with the artifacts they produced. And indexes: collections that are pieces in their own right.

How it meets the rest of Collab OS

Inside Collab OS, a spark is a short post with no job yet — something a member noticed, wrote down, and pinned to the studio wall. A piece is what a spark becomes when it is ready for the world: same author, same tags, same words, with a public address. That promotion is not built yet; the seam for it is.

Pieces are also made to be placed. The Motion Library exposes each study as an addressable part, and Lines of Thought exposes each spectrum. When a study is relevant to a project, the plan is that it can sit on that collaboration’s surface — not as a link out, but as the thing itself.

Where it is going

Today the shelf is short and it is ours. The intent is a medium others can contribute to, and perhaps a rhythm — issues, seasons, a magazine’s cadence — if the right collaborators want to make it with us. For now: a good skeleton, a few real pieces, and room.
